Gate Seal Design Guidelines H5
OUT OF FACTORY/FIELD SPLICING:
Splices done in the field can be hot or cold vulcanized splices. Field spliced joints should be prepared with a 90 degree cut relative to the cross-section and buffed square for what is called a butt-splice. Hot vulcanized splices are best but usually not practical due to conditions in the field. Cold vulcanized (cemented) splices are the most common. An adhesive or caulking should be selected for the appropriate rubber compound being used. The specification on the print should state: Seals shall be bolted on and dry fitted to the gate assuring the ends of the seals to be joined are a tight fit to each other without gaps or buckling of the rubber. Rubber cement or caulking shall be applied, per the manufactures instructions, at final seal installation.
